<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control playback of a TextST image from a BD-J application. <P>SOLUTION: A mono TextST stream of a TextST image of a mono image as a 2-D image, a stereo TextST stream of a TextST image of a stereo image as a 3-D image, and an offset TextST stream of a TextST image of a mono image which is to be used to generate a stereo image with an offset value providing a parallax to the mono image are defined as the TextST stream of a TextST image. A stream selection API selects the stereo TextST stream or the offset TextST stream. When a video mode is a flat stereo video mode and the offset Text subtitle stream is selected, the offset value is set to zero and a mono image corresponding to the offset Text subtitle stream is reproduced.
