PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sizing agent for a carbon fiber capable of providing excellent adhesion with a thermoplastic matrix resin to a carbon fiber strand used to reinforce the thermoplastic matrix resin, as well as a carbon fiber strand and a fiber-reinforced composite material using the same.

SOLUTION: The sizing agent for the carbon fiber is used to reinforce a thermoplastic matrix resin. The sizing agent for the carbon fiber essentially contains a reaction product of an epoxy compound and a hydroxyl group-containing amine compound.
