<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of reducing transfer dust resulting from edge effect. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has imaging means for writing a latent image by emitting writing light onto a charged image carrier, and developing the latent image on the image carrier, thereby forming a toner image on the image carrier. The apparatus forms an image on a recording material in such a manner that a toner image formed on the image carrier by transfer means is transferred to the recording material conveyed by a surface moving member or in such a manner that the toner image on the surface moving member is transferred to the recording material after the toner image is transferred to the surface of the surface moving member. The image forming apparatus comprises: optical detecting means for detecting light reflected from the toner image; and control means for obtaining information relating to the toner layer height of a linear toner image based on the detection result of the optical detecting means that has detected light reflected from at least the linear toner image, and controlling the imaging means so that in a case where the toner layer height of the linear toner image is equal to or greater than a preset reference height at which transfer dust occurs, the toner layer height is reduced. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
