1,184,383. Generators operating by electromagnetic interaction with fluids. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. 27 Nov., 1967 [16 Dec., 1966], No. 53774/67. Heading H2A. The duct wall of an MHD generator comprises a thermally conductive (copper) casing 1, including cooling passages 2, with a metallic partition structure 5 secured to one of its faces to house links 4 of ceramic material. The partition structure members 5 have extensions 6 which extend into the cooling passages and are insulated from the casing by sleeves 11 of ceramic material. A plate 10 of ceramic material is also provided between the bricks and the casing. The partition structure members 5 are tapered in cross-section to firmly hold bricks 4 and can be recessed below the surface of the bricks, Figure 2 (not shown). The extensions 6 are preferably cylindrical and are anchored by nuts 7 and spring washers 9 with an 0-ring seal 8 provided to prevent leakage. The bricks 4 which are made of magnesia, strontium zinonate or calcium zinonate have an approximately square face and the dimensions H and D are chosen to keep the temperature of this face at about 1700‹ C. |
