A process for producing a positive electrode material for secondary batteries, comprising the steps of: mixing a powder of a lithium compound (which is a raw material) with a powder of a metal compound to produce a mixed powder and granulating the mixed powder to produce powder granules; and burning the powder granules continuously at a predetermined temperature for a predetermined period to cause a reaction in the powder granules, thereby obtaining a composite oxide of lithium and the metal as the positive electrode material for secondary batteries.
