An apparatus for recognizing components of a chip mounter and a method for mounting the components by using the same are provided to mount correctly micro-chips by using a moving mirror for obtaining bottom surface images and lateral surface images of the components. A nozzle(230) moves between a pickup position for picking up a component(90) and a measurement position for measuring a picking-up state of the component. A camera(210) is for obtaining bottom surface images and lateral surface images of the picked-up component. A fixing mirror(270) is arranged at one side of a lower end of the nozzle in order to obtain lateral images of the picked-up component when the nozzle is positioned at the measurement position. A moving mirror(250) is moved between a lower part of the fixing mirror and a lower part of the nozzle in order to obtain the bottom surface images and lateral surface images of the picked-up component.
