According to the present invention, it is possible to provide a method for producing a 1,3-dimethyladamantane represented by formula (2) by performing a skeletal isomerization reaction using, as the catalyst, 0.5 to 1.5 parts by weight of HF and 0.05 to 0.5 parts by weight of BF3 relative to 1 parts by weight of perhydroacenaphthene represented by formula (1) under reaction temperatures between 60 and 110°C.
