A vehicle brake system (1) in which an engine (50) is started in order to regain the brake negative pressure of a booster device (12) connected to an air intake path (51) of the engine (50), wherein the valve position of a throttle valve (53) in the engine (50) is controlled towards being open when the engine is started in order to regain the brake negative pressure during vehicle motion. The control for regaining the brake negative pressure by controlling the valve position of the throttle valve (53) is preferably performed while the driver is holding the brake down.
