A method and an apparatus for driving a liquid crystal display(LCD) device are provided to improve image quality by minimizing a horizontal blur by varying charging times of even-numbered pixel arrays to be different from the charging times of odd-numbered pixel arrays. An apparatus for driving a liquid crystal display device includes an LCD panel(110), gate drivers(150,160), plural data ICs(140), and a timing controller(122). The LCD panel includes plural data and gate lines and includes an image display unit, which comprises even-numbered and odd-numbered pixel arrays. The gate drivers supply gate pulses with different pulsewidths on the odd-numbered and even-numbered gate lines. The data ICs supply positive or negative data voltages on the respective data lines. The timing controller supplies the data signal, so that the positive or negative data voltage is supplied to the respective data lines. The timing controller controls the gate driver.
