From a distance map obtained by mapping the subject distance of the subject at each position on a target input image, a distance histogram 430 expressing the distribution of the subject distance is generated and displayed on a monitor. In this case, bar icons 412 and 413 movable along the distance axis 431 of the distance histogram 430 are also displayed.
