Vehicle washing apparatus comprises pairs of rotatable side engaging brushes 13, 14: 15, 16 joined by beams 11, 12 and pivoted at points 9, 10 to arms 7, 8 yieldably biased in a horizontal plane by an arrangement of pneumatic cylinders towards the middle of the apparatus. Further resilient cam means are provided between the beams 11, 12 and their arms 7, 8 to urge the beams to the broken line position in Fig. 3. Roof engaging rotatable brushes 19, 20 swing on beams 21, 22 which oscillate on counterweighted levers 17, 18, and means is provided to lift the levers 17, 18 in an emergency. In Fig. 8 the apparatus is wheeled to move over the vehicle and the vertical pivoted brushes may be moved from one side of the vehicle to the other on a carriage 36 running on a cross rail 35 (see also Figs. 9 and 10, not shown).</p> |
