<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side seal for a linear guide device having components of a seal member, a retaining plate, and a cover, and to allow two types of the side seals with different orientations of lips of the seal members to be assembled by preparing only one type of each component. <P>SOLUTION: Two types of side seals 203A, 203B are assembled by a seal member 1, a retaining plate 2, and a cover 3. The shape of a base part 12 of the seal member 1 is line-symmetric with respect to the center line in the thickness direction. On both sides 13, 14 in the thickness direction, the base part 12 of the sealing member 1 has a recess (engagement part) 12a which engages a protrusion 21 of the retaining plate 2.
