<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a touch panel that realizes desired detection sensitivity to a touch capacitance in a shortest possible detection period, and a display device having the touch panel. <P>SOLUTION: Plural pieces of detection wiring 6 and 7 provided in a row direction x and a column direction y of a touch screen 1 are divided into plural detection wiring sets X(1), X(2), Y(1) and Y(2). As many selection switching circuits 20a-20d and capacitance detection circuits 21a-21d as the detection wiring sets are provided, each corresponding to each of the plural detection wiring sets.
