PURPOSE: A software image update method and an apparatus thereof in a digital broadcasting receiver are provided to update a software image based on terminating time of a service in a settop box. CONSTITUTION: If there is a software image update event, an apparatus extracts software image information(100,106). If the software image is effective, the apparatus compares a previous software image version with an update target software image version(110). The apparatus determines terminating point about one or more digital broadcasting receiver functions(120). The apparatus updates the software image(122).
