A method and an apparatus of determining a position of a robot are provided to reduce calculation time and errors of recognizing landmarks by simplifying an image processing algorithm. A method of determining a position of a robot includes the steps of photographing images of landmarks at a movable robot(S501), signal-processing the photographed image, and determining whether an image of a first mark for recognizing a position and a direction exists among the landmarks(S503), calculating a position and a rotating angle of the first mark in case that the first mark exists, and outputting a position and a direction of the movable robot through a relation of coordinate systems of the landmark and the movable robot(S504), extracting a second mark for identification among the landmarks from the photographed images(S506), and distinguishing an ID of the landmark from a position and an arrangement form of the extracted second mark(S507).
