The device has an end-fitting tensioner (1) comprising a hollow belt shaft (3) that is driven along winding direction by a tensioning device (5). The belt shaft is provided with an insertion slot that is wound at an end of a seat belt (2) during activation of the tensioning device. A locking element is provided in the belt shaft and fixed in a locking position along pulling direction of the seat belt with respect to the belt shaft. A fitting part (7) is provided at the end of the seat belt for connecting with the seat belt. The fitting part is radially inserted into the insertion slot.
