PURPOSE: A light emitting device and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to easily control the brightness of an LED chip by absorbing at least a part of light emitted from the LED chip. CONSTITUTION: The brightness of an LED chip(10) is measured. The LED chip is mounted on lead frames(30a,30b). The content of a light absorbing agent(21) is determined by the difference between the measured brightness and target brightness. An encapsulating material(20) including the light absorbing agent having the determined content is arranged on an optical path of an LED chip. The encapsulating material includes a fluorescent substance excited by the light emitted from the LED chip.
