PURPOSE: A method for driving a stereoscopic image display device and a driving method thereof are provided to divide an even number frame period into a first and a second period, and offers black data to a display panel for the second period. CONSTITUTION: A display panel displays a right eye image or a left eye image of a 3D image for an odd number frame period. The display panel displays a black image for a part of an even number frame period. A backlight unit turns on light sources for the part of the even number frame period. A display panel driving unit divides the even frame period into a first period and a second period. The display panel driving unit maintains the voltage of pixels on the display panel for the first period. The display panel driving unit adjusts the voltage to a black data voltage for the second period.
