Polyoxyalkylene-siloxane block copolymers, in which the polyoxyalkylene block is connected to Si via a carbon linkage, are used as antistatic agents for poly-mono-olefins and silicone rubber. The preferred poly-monoolefins are the normally solid, crystalline ethylene and propylene homopolymers, ethylenepropylene copolymers, and copolymers and interpolymers of ethylene or propylene containing polymerized therein a minor amount of styrene orα-methylstyrene. The silicone rubbers disclosed are those conventionally made by (i) heat-curing siloxane gums, usually containing fillers and other additives, with organic peroxides, or (ii) room-temp. curing siloxanes. The antistatic agent is usually used in amount of 0À001 to 30 pts. (by wt.) per 100 pts. of the organic polymer or silicone gum and is incorporated therein as by milling or blending, and the resulting mixture is then moulded or extruded to the desired shape or used for coating purposes. Alternatively the polymer or silicone gum can first be shaped and the antistatic agent (as a selection or dispersion in water, acetone, benzene, toluene or ethanol) can be applied to the surface thereof as by immersion, spraying or painting.</p> |
