Polyepoxides are formed by reacting a polyglycidyl ether with a carbocyclic diamine which contains 2 isolated carbocyclic radicals which are linked by a short chain bivalent bridge radical, each carbocyclic radical having one amino group and the diamine having at least 3 reactive hydrogen atoms attached to the nitrogen atoms, the amount of diamine used being 20-46% of the stoichiometric amount required for reaction with all the epoxide groups. The polyepoxides formed are curable with the conventional curing agents for epoxy resins and may be compounded with solvents, fillers and other conventional additives to give moulding powders, coating compositions for application by fluidized bed techniques and impregnating varnishes for laminates. In two examples insulators are moulded from moulding powders containing the polyepoxides of the invention.ALSO:A pulverulent composition comprising a pulverulent epoxy resin obtained by reacting an excess of a polyglycidyl ether of diphenylolpropane with diaminodiphenylmethane, phthalic anhydride, trisdimethylaminomethylphenol, epoxidised soya bean oil, china clay and an organic derivative of a magnesium montmorillonite is fluidized with an upward current of dry air and applied to 16 gauge aluminium panels preheated at 200 DEG C. The coatings are post cured for 1 hour at 200 DEG C. |
