[Also in Division B7] A composite conductor for an electric railway has a non-ferrous metal member 12 of high electrical conductivity and poor wear characteristics having a slot 17 to receive the web 14 of a ferrous metal member 11 of lower electrical conductivity but better wear characteristics; the members 11, 12 are in continuous contact and are plug welded together as at 19, Fig. 2. Member 11 may be steel and member 12 may be aluminium. The conductor may be supported on rollers 30, 31 mounted in U-bracket 30 secured to a support 37 through insulators 40, 41. Adjacent conductors A, A<SP>1</SP> are connected together by plates 20, 21 and bolts 22. A sliding collector D, Fig. 4, includes two contact members 50, 51 pivoted by pin 52 to a bracket 52 fixed via insulators 54, 55 to a steel channel 56 on a carrier. In Figs. 5-7, (not shown), the conductor can slide relative to its support. The conductor may be suspended with a collector biased against the bottom of the conductor. |
