1,137,555. Gas-lift conveyers. PILKING- TON BROS. Ltd., D. WILDE, and H. R. S. JACK. 10 Oct., 1966 [22 Oct., 1965], No. 44899/65. Heading B8A. Glass sheets in a conveyer trough are supported out of contact with the base 8 and walls 14 by gas jets from apertures 7, 15 respectively and are moved along the trough by gas flowing from slits 23 in the front faces of chambers 16 which are manually or mechanically propelled along the trough. Each chamber 16 is supported by runners 17 resting on ducts 10, supplying gas to the apertures 15, and provided with rollers 18 engaged in guide tracks 20. The runners 17 may be coupled to driven conveyer chains. The gas flowing from the slits 23 in the chambers 16 and acting on the rear edge of the sheet 1 is supplied from the ducts 10, passing through the apertures 15 and corresponding apertures in the adjacent walls of the chambers. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the chambers are connected by arms and universal joints to conveyer chains, the arms not engaging the ducts 10. In a further modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the duct 10 and chamber 16 at one side are omitted and the base 8 is inclined transversely towards the remaining duct. In a further modification, Figs. 5-7 (not shown), a single chamber is provided which extends across the trough and is formed with a front face shaped to correspond with the shape of the rear edge of a non-rectangular sheet such as a car windscreen. |
