PURPOSE: A liquid crystal alignment agent is provided to have high irradiation sensitivity, and to form a liquid crystal alignment film having good liquid crystal orientation and electric properties through a photoalignment method of low dose. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal alignment agent comprises polyamic acid or polyimide having bycyclo[2,2,2]octene structure. The polyamic acid has a structural unit in chemical formula 1, and the polyimide has a structural unit in chemical formula 2. In chemical formulas, R^1 and ^^2 is respectively and independently a divalent organic group. A forming method of a liquid crystal alignment film comprises: a step of forming a film by spreading the liquid crystal alignment agent on a substrate; and a step of obtaining liquid crystal aligning ability by irradiating polarized ultraviolet rays on the film.
