PURPOSE: A vibration damper having an amplitude selective damping force changes the initial stress of a rebound spring by employing a spring seat adjustable in the axial direction. CONSTITUTION: A vibration damper(1) comprises a cylinder(3) and a spring seat(27). The cylinder supports a piston rod(5) to be adjustable in the axial direction. A first piston(7) and a second piston(13) are fixed together to the piston rod. The first piston comprises damping valves(9,11). The second piston moves relative to one or more rebound springs(19-25) in the axial direction. The spring seat is formed adjustable in the axial direction by an actuator(31).
