<p>A cutting insert for an axial plunging operation includes a top surface (23), a plurality of side surfaces (25), a chamfer (27) between the top surface (23) and at least one of the side surfaces (25), and a cutting edge (29) between the chamfer (27) and the at least one side surface (25). The cutting edge (29) defines an intersection between the side surface (25) and the chamfer (27). The chamfer (27) intersects with the top surface (23) along a line at an edge of the chamfer (27). The chamfer (27) is substantially flat and increases in size from a first end (29') of the cutting edge (29) to a second end (29") of the cutting edge (29) so that the cutting edge (29) forms a non-zero angle (A2) with a plane of the top surface (23) when viewed parallel to a plane (P23) of the top surface (23). Two non-parallel side surfaces extend from the at least one side surface.</p> |
