1,154,800. Resin compositions. SOC. MONSANTO. 19 Jan., 1968 [17 Feb., 1967], No. 7752/67. Headings C3G and C3P. A resin composition having antistatic properties comprises a copolymer of acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile with a vinyl aromatic monomer, together with as antistatic additives a minor proportion of an amine of formula R-N[(CH 2 -CHR<SP>1</SP>O) m H]nM 2-n , where R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon group containing from 6 to 22 carbon atoms, R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen or methyl, m is an integer of from 1 to 8 inclusive and n is 1 or 2, and a minor proportion of a polyalkylene glycol. The copolymer may also contain a conjugated diene monomer, which in one embodiment is incorporated by a graft technique wherein the nitrile and aromatic monomer are grafted on to a preformed diene rubber. Alternatively, the nitrile-vinyl aromatic copolymer may be blended with a diene rubber. In the examples, polybutadiene grafted with styrene and acrylonitrile is blended with a mixture consisting of (1) N,N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl) C 12 to C 18 -alkylamines and polyethylene glycol or polypropylene glycol; (2) N,N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl) C 6 to C 18 -alkylamines derived from coconut oil and polypropylene glycol; or (3) N,N-bis(2- hydroxyethyl) alkylamines derived from tallow oil and polypropylene glycol. Reference has been directed by the Comptrollcr to Specifications 1,018,349, 1,074,373 and 1,084,594.
