The invention relates to a composition containing a particulate solid, a plastic material and a compound obtained/obtainable by a process comprising (i) reacting at a temperature of 120° C. or less, or 100° C. or less a hydroxycarboxylic acid and a lactone; and (ii) optionally reacting the product of (i) with a C1-50 carboxylic acid. The invention further relates to novel compounds, and the use of the compound as a dispersant in a plastic material.
