A permanent set is imparted to fabrics consisting of or containing wool or other keratin fibre by heating the fabric at a temperature of at least 212 DEG F. in the presence of an aqueous solution of ammonium thioglycollate. The process may be applied to the creasing of trousers, pleating skirts, "setting" fabrics in a flat condition, including knitted fabrics, "setting" twist or extension in yarn prior to weaving, and embossing fabrics. The solution may be applied locally or all over, e.g. by spraying, and the heating, which may be accompanied by the application of pressure, may be by steaming. The treating solution may contain ethylene diamine tetracetic acid. Specification 690,063 is referred to. |
