PURPOSE: A giro bill payment apparatus of a portable terminal and method thereof are provided to enable a user to use a barcode recognition service by using the portable terminal. CONSTITUTION: A camera unit(140) captures a barcode of an application form. A control unit(110) extracts application form information from the barcode captured by the camera unit in a giro payment mode. The control unit controls the giro payment mode by automatically inputting the extracted application form information to a giro payment screen of a mobile banking service. The control unit extracts information which is necessary for an input blank of the giro payment screen from the application form information. The control unit automatically input the extracted information to the input blank.
