DEINTERLACING APPARATUS AND METHOD USING EDGE MAP

PURPOSE: A deinterlacing device using an edge map and a method thereof are provided to apply a deinterlacing algorithm with large computation into an edge area, and a deinterlacing algorithm with short processing time into a non edge area. CONSTITUTION: A masking applying unit(120) calculates the size of a gradient vector for a reference pixel in an input interlace image. An edge detecting unit(130) detects an edge of the reference pixel. An edge determining unit(140) determines an edge of a target interpolation pixel. An interpolation method selecting unit(150) selects an interpolation method for the target interpolation pixel. An interpolating unit(160) interpolates the target interpolation pixel.
