<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently cool heat generated by a primary light source of a backlight device in a liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: A cooling device using cooling liquid is installed in the backlight device. Heat generated by a primary heat source is transmitted to a first piping 3 through a light source mounting substrate 2 and a heat conduction part 7. The cooling liquid flowing in the first piping 3 transports the heat from the primary light source 1 to a separated place, and radiates the heat from a heat sink 6 thermally contacting with the first piping 3. The first piping 3 is made a sealed flat tube. A measure is taken for making the temperature distribution in the heat sink 6 uniform.
