An electric construction machine capable of improving the work efficiency of battery charging work is provided. A lock switch (29) is closed when a lock lever (28) in an operation compartment (6) is set to a lock release position. A power supply inlet (9) to which a commercial power supply (41) cable is connected is provided on the outside of the operation compartment (6). A charging start switch (43) capable of starting a control device (40) and issuing charging control instructions is provided to the power supply inlet (9). The control device (40) has: a motor control function that drives an electric motor (31) by power from a main battery (7), when a signal has been input from the lock switch (29); and a charging control function that charges the main battery (7) using the commercial power supply (41) when instructed by the charging start switch (43). In addition, the lock switch (29) is wired and connected such that even if the lock switch (29) is closed when the control device (40) is performing charging control, a signal is not output from the lock switch (29) to the control device (40).
