Provided is a method for forming cracks on a substrate made of a brittle material by surely stopping a second crack at an intersection with a first crack. The first crack is formed by first laser scribing, then, after adhering a friction coefficient reducing agent in the first crack, the second crack is formed to the intersection with the first crack, in a direction intersecting with the first crack, by second laser scribing, and at the intersection with the first crack, advancing of the second crack is stopped.
