PURPOSE: A reverse run detection method and a system using the same are provided to determine a reverse run state by processing an input image. CONSTITUTION: A first input image is inputted with respect to a monitoring region(S210). A number plate is detected from a first region(S220). The first region is a part of the first input image. A second input image is inputted with respect to the monitoring region(S250). The number plate is detected from a second region(S260). The second region is transferred to a reverse run direction of the first region. A reverse run state of a vehicle is determined.
