PURPOSE: A GPS based traffic information providing system and a providing method thereof are provided to enable a user to grasp traffic information in real time by sharing traffic information which is measured in real time. CONSTITUTION: A mobile terminal(10) collects traffic information through a GPS receiving module and transmits traffic information with an object unit. The mobile terminal displays the traffic information by requesting a search area. A traffic information DB(30) stores the traffic information with an object unit of the mobile terminal. A service server(20) stores the traffic information of the object transmitted from the mobile terminal and stores the traffic information at the traffic information DB. The service server provides the traffic information of the object to the mobile terminal by searching the object located in a search area requested by the mobile terminal.
