<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine controller that improves fuel economy while improving idle stability with a simple configuration. <P>SOLUTION: The engine controller includes an idle speed setting unit 2a that sets a target idle speed during idle of an engine 10, and a target torque setting unit 2a that sets a target torque in accordance with the target idle speed. The apparatus further includes: an ignition timing control unit 4a that controls an ignition timing of the engine 10 and an intake air amount control unit 4b that controls the amount of intake air of the engine 10, in order to achieve the target torque; and a steering angle detection unit 8 that detects a steering angle. The apparatus further includes a torque value setting unit 3 that sets a torque value larger than the target torque in accordance with the steering angle. The intake air amount control unit 4b controls the amount of intake air in accordance with the target torque and the torque value.
