The device has a signal generating unit (35), and a modulating unit (36) generating a frequency modulated duration dash signal, which is iteratively formed from a set of frequency stairs interlaced to each other. An evaluating device (41) assigns measurement values of a reception signal frequency stages of the individual frequency stairs for respective iteration step. An echo profile generates the measured values that are assigned to the frequency stages, and includes surrounding information for a synthetic aperture by various aperture points.
