The invention relates to the imaging method known by the name of "SPECT." These days, the radioisotopes required for a SPECT examination must be produced centrally in a few centralized institutes around the world. Due to the duration of transport from the production location to the location of the SPECT examination, the selected isotope must comprise a relatively slow decay rate, so that said isotope still comprises sufficient activity at the time of the SPECT examination. According to the invention, an ONIAC particle accelerator for producing the radioisotope is used, because said accelerator has a very small size due to the principle thereof. It is thus possible to install the accelerator at the site of the SPECT scanner, that is, for example, in the same building, and to produce radioisotopes on site, and therefore said radioisotopes can comprise a high decay rate due to the now insignificant duration of transport. The image quality of the SPECT examination can be substantially improved accordingly. |
