The steering (1) has a power transmission screw (4) arranged in a steering gear (2) and driven by an electrical servomotor (3). The screw has an axially undisplaceable nut (6) supported in a steering gear housing (5). An electromechanical locking device (11) is provided at the gear and has a locking element (12) brought into engagement with an engagement portion (13) of an engaging element (14). The engaging element is connected with components (15, 16) of the gear and/or servomotor, and the device is protected by a protection device (17) against mechanical and electrical abuse intervention. The engaging element is formed as a star latch.
