The cathode consists of a cast alloy base and parallel rods with small cross-sections projecting from it. The solid base serves as a matrix cauterized to the required depth. The alloy is pref. a compound corresponding to the eutectic mixture or having a eutectic composition plus-or-minus 10%, and is pref. non-metallic, Ni-W or Ni-Al-Cr.
