The method involves bending a pipe or rod-shaped element to a predetermined shape in a process step. Cross-sections (21, 22, 31, 32, 41, 42) of a stabilizer (1) are changed for adaptation of a bending stiffness of the stabilizer in another process step. The stabilizer is divided into intensely and less intensely loaded sections along a longitudinal extension in the latter process step. The cross-sections are changed by sectionally flattening the cross-sections in a preset measurement according to a degree of loading of the sections (2-4) of the stabilizer.
