Certain embodiments of the invention may include systems, methods, and apparatus for online estimation of standard deviation. According to an example embodiment of the invention, a method is provided for estimating a noise standard deviation in a time varying signal. The method may include receiving input samples representative of an amplitude of a time varying signal; receiving indices representative of relative sample times associated with the input samples; determining regression coefficients based at least in part on the received input samples and the received indices; determining a predicted value of the input samples based at least in part on the determined regression coefficients; and determining an estimation of the noise standard deviation based at least upon a difference between the input samples and the predicted value.
