The invention comprises a complex of cobalt carbonyl and an additive which is: (A) a dioxaphosphacyclohexane of formula where R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are C 1-20 alkyl or C 6-22 aryl, X is H, F, Cl, Br, I, aryl, alkyl, acyl, alkylcarbamyl or arylcarbamyl; (B) a trioxaphospha-adamantane of formula where R 4 is C 1-16 alkyl or C 6-22 aryl; (C) a halophosphine of formula where R 5 and R 6 are C 1-16 alkyl or C 6-16 aryl, and X 1 is halogen; (D) a trioxaphosphinobicyclooctane of formula where R 1-4 may also be hydrogen; (E) a tri- Oxadiphosphabicyclooctane of formula where R 1-3 may also be hydrogen; or (F) a trioxaphosphitebicyclooctane of formula where R 1-4 may also be hydrogen. The complexes are prepared by reacting a cobalt carbonyl with the selected additive at a temperature of - 30‹ to 250‹ C. and a pressure of 1-05 to 350 kg. per sq. cm. gauge, preferably in an inert solvent. They are used as catalysts in hydroformylation reactions, and may be employed in admixture with a trialkyl amine having a pKa between 8 and 15. |
