<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet feeding device capable of preventing a non-sheet feeding of a recording medium during separation feeding of sheets with a simple and low cost configuration without increasing parts count, and to provide an image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The sheet feeding device 21 separates recording sheets P fed into a separation nip, which is formed between a friction pad 42 held by a pad holder 43 and a separation roller 41 rotating while being in contact with the friction pad 42.
