<p>A pressure sensitive adhesive tape comprises a backing film of a film-forming polymer of monomers, including at least a major proportion of vinyl chloride, a pressure sensitive adhesive coated over one surface of the backing film, and an adhesive primer layer applied from an aqueous dispersion interposed between the adhesive and backing film firmly anchoring the adhesive to the film against adhesive transfer when the tape is unwound from roll form over wide ranges of temperature; the primer layer comprising in substantially single phase (a) a water insoluble rubbery nitrile polymer, (b) a conjugated diene polymer in the amount of from 0.3 to 4 parts by weight per part of nitrile polymer and/or a tackifying resin in the amount of from 0.3 to 10 parts by weight per part of nitrile polymer, and (c) 2 to 30 parts by weight per 100 parts of rubbery polymer in the primer layer of a wetting agent containing in the molecule thereof a hydrophilic group and a nonlinear hydrophobic group. The primer layer may comprise in substantially single phase a rubbery copolymer of butadiene and acrylonitrile, a rubbery copolymer of butadiene and styrene in an amount of 0.3 to 4 parts by weight per part of the butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer, and 6 to 30 parts of water-soluble non-ionic wetting agent per 100 parts by weight of rubbery copolymer. The wetting agent may be nonylphenoxy poly (ethylene oxy) ethanol. The backing film may be of polyvinyl chloride or vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer. Examples of nitrile rubber conjugated diene polymers, tackifying resins, wetting agents and adhesives are given.</p> |
