Blocks of material are converted into products of reduced sections by exercising a compressive stress on the mass of the block, and a supplementary compressive stress on a localised region of the block, in such a manner that the block is put under constraint in the localised region in a sufficient measure to cause it to flow through an orifice determining the section of the product. The method is used for shaping materials such as copper and lead by extrusion.
|
