Coarse fuel droplets in the spray from an injector 14 precipitated during the passage of the mixture to the carburetter outlet 16 are returned to the fuel supply. Fuel from the conical spray 13 precipitated on the walls of the passage 11 and a plate 26 which causes the whole of the mixture to change direction sharply is collected in a chamber 12 connected by a pipe 39 to the fuel supply. The plate 26 may be shaped to direct the mixture upwardly to the outlet 16. The position of the plate 26 is controlled by a diaphragm 28 subjected on opposite sides to the pressure in chamber 12 and atmospheric pressure, respectively. The chamber 12 is heated by engine cooling water or exhaust gases flowing through jacket 25. The drainage pipe 39 is connected via a float valve (55), Fig. 4 (not shown), to a pipe (51), Fig.3 (not shown), between a non-return valve (53) connected to a fuel supply tank (52) and a pump (54) supplying the injector 14. Pipes (60), Fig. 4 in the float (57) of the float valve (55) facilatate passage of fuel to the bottom of the float chamber (56). |
