A variable valve duration apparatus for a vehicle is provided to improve engine performance in a high speed range and idle stability in a low speed range by setting desired valve overlap regardless of intake valve timing. A variable valve duration apparatus for a vehicle includes a cylinder unit(10), a variable cam unit(20), and a control unit(30). The cylinder unit is arranged to supply oil to an advance chamber(2a) or a retard chamber(2b) formed in a cam shaft(2) in accordance with the engine condition or speed of a vehicle. The variable cam unit is connected to the cylinder unit, and operates the cylinder unit in accordance with the traveling condition of the vehicle through the power of a crank shaft. The control unit is connected to the variable cam unit, and controls the variable cam unit.
