The food preparation apparatus includes a vessel, a filling device for supplying predetermined amount of instant food powder to the vessel, and a liquid reservoir for supplying the vessel with a liquid. An agitator is provided in the vessel, and a drive unit is provided for moving the agitator. A magnetic coupler is arranged between the agitator and the drive unit. A retainer is arranged for captive arrangement of the agitator in the vessel.
