POWER CONTROL METHOD, COMPUTER SYSTEM, AND PROGRAM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption by controlling the power consumption of a memory installed on a server.

SOLUTION: A method for controlling power consumption in a memory is provided for a computer system which comprises one or more task servers, a management server for managing the task servers, and a network for connecting the task servers and the management server. Each of the task servers comprises: one or more memory chips that are units in which the power consumption in a memory can be controlled; a power control mechanism for performing control for switching the power consumption of the memory chips between a power-saving state and a normal state; and a virtualization mechanism for operating one or more virtual servers. The management server identifies normal-state memory chips out of the memory chips; identifies memory chips that are not assigned to the virtual servers, out of the identified normal-state memory chips; and instructs the task servers to switch the power consumption for the identified unassigned memory chips to a power-saving state.
